Moneysights is a Bangalore based startup by ex-employees of InMobi that aims to make stock investing simple. In the US, majority of financial decisions are made using online finance tools like Yahoo finance, Google finance, Bloomberg etc. However, in India the market is still in infancy and most of the investment decisions happen through word of mouth and suggestions of brokers and friends.
One of the reasons for low patronage for finance sites in India is their cluttered design and overwhelming amount of numbers that drives most small investors. This startup like a few others aims to change that. Moneysights allows users to add Indian stocks and mutual funds to their portfolio and keep track of it. The site is neatly designed and registration was quite simple. It also gives recommendations for investments for a given amount to invest and a risk level. However, the site could add more personal finance tools to make the process more engaging. Usage is still low as indicated by Alexa statistics, but the sector as whole has good potential.
The company raised $270K (Rs. 1 crore) in funding from Blume ventures and InMobi founders. The company is yet to actively tap social media to grow its audience.
